TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF

Looking after your physical health by getting enough sleep, eating regularly and drinking enough water can give you the energy to cope with difficult voices, feelings and experiences. Exercise and spending time in nature can also help to improve general wellbeing.

Voices can often make it difficult to get enough sleep or remember to eat regularly. The following resources from the Mind mental health charity might be helpful:

I will eat something and drink something in case I’m hungry. I can get stressed if I feel hungry or thirsty.

Diet and exercise played a key part in getting me to where I am today. The routine of exercising even just twice a week really helped me. Find something you enjoy – for me it was a body balance class with a yoga element. It had music so I was able to shut out my own noise and follow the class.
